War is Hell

W.J. Rayment | 02 November, 2005 08:37

William Tecumseh Sherman was famous for stating, "War is hell, all hell."  What he meant by that is that there is no "making nice" with our enemy, for to do so is to allow them an intolerable advantage over us.   The best way to defeat that advantage is to wage an unremitting struggle to destroy the enemy's power base.  Anyone who has played the game "Risk" understands this concept.  Allow your enemy to hold important positions, and he will overpower you.

You probably think I am talking about the Terrorists with whom we fight a vicious war (vicious on their part).  And this strategy should undoubtedly be applied to them.  Well, in fact it is being applied in Afghanistan and Iraq.  But we conservatives can also apply it to our erstwhile foes, the liberals.  The way to destroy liberalism is to use their best weapon against them, education.  In the war of ideas, there is no question we have the bigger guns.  Logic, economics, science, moral philosophy et al are all on our side.  The only question is a delivery system for our weapons.

Of course, there is the internet, magazines, blogs (like this one).  We are also making inroads in television (if not so much in newspapers).  But where we really need to fight the battle is in the classroom.  For now the Liberals have the upper hand.  We conservatives tend to homeschool in the face of the Liberal bias in primary and high school.  What we need are teachers with a conservative perspective to enter the schools en mass.  One way to do this would be for retirees, who still have many years before them and the time to devote to it, to volunteer to go into the classrooms.  This can be done on a volunteer basis, as substitutes and finally as teachers themselves.
