Threatened America Awakens Slowly

Alan Caruba/WASHINGTON/Anxiety Center -- Americans are slowly, slowly awakening to the threats that exist in the world. They have been lulled to sleep too long by too many administrations, most particularly the Democratic ones led by Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

When Jimmy Carter failed to support the Shah of Iran, he began a succession of assaults and attacks on the US starting in 1979 when Iranian Jihadists seized our diplomats in Tehran, holding them 444 days until President Ronald Reagan took office. By the end of his eight years in office "the evil empire" of the former Soviet Union had collapsed. George H. Bush continued his legacy, only to be undermined by the Democrats. Continued Below...

Then followed eight years of dithering by Bill Clinton, who ignored repeated assaults including the original attempt in 1993 to destroy the World Trade Center that culminated with 9.11 in 2001. His efforts to earn a Nobel Peace Prize led to the worst Israeli-Palestinian conflict ever.

To subdue the insanity of Jihad, Islam will require the modern version of the Crusades. All around the world they threaten nations that include the Philippines, Indonesia, Russia, and, of course, Israel. By contrast, the threat of Communism is one of slow encirclement by means of United Nations international treaties designed to deprive us of our sovereignty while tapping our wealth through global taxation schemes.

Many saw the demise of the former Soviet Union as Communism's end, when, in fact, it exists worldwide and, while George W. Bush concentrates on the threat from Islam, Communists too are beginning to increase their own murderous effort to impose their will. This past week in Italy, the Red Brigade murdered a popular economics adviser to the president of that nation. There is no doubt that cells of the Red Brigades are alive and well throughout Europe and South America. Witness, too, the increased US effort to protect nations like Peru and Columbia from Communist insurgencies.

We have ignored our internal terrorists, the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberal Front, while they have perpetrated numerous acts of arson and the destruction of laboratories engaged in medical and agricultural research. They have been emboldened over the years to increase their vandalism, sparing nothing from McDonald's franchises to fur farms and other commercial and educational venues. These Green objectives are directed against our Capitalist system with the intent of weakening it. They and those assisting them must now tracked down and jailed.

Yet another threat to our nation's well being is the presence of many members in the US Congress who thwart this nation's need for greater energy independence. Now more than ever we need to be able to tap the vast oil reserves of Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. When you add in calls for general amnesty for illegal immigrants and the total failure of the Immigration and Naturalization Service to provide any protection, these two problems take on major proportions, also theatening our very future.

In November, when we get a chance to go to the polls, the voters must overwhelmingly return the control of the Senate and the House to the Republicans who will give the President the support he needs to provide us the protection we need. We must save ourselves from our internal and external enemies.
