Voting Against Decadence: The Post-Clinton Era

Alan Caruba/WASHINGTON/Anxiety Center -- "We are firmly convinced, and we act on that conviction, that with nations, as with individuals, our interests soundly calculated, will ever be found inseparable from our moral duties." So said Thomas Jefferson. The Founding Fathers all referenced the need for moral behavior if the American experiment in democracy was to succeed. Continued Below...

America is now emerging from the Clinton years in which it is obvious to everyone that the former Chief Executive was the worse kind of politician, a man with no moral compass. Neither the Supreme Court, nor those in his former home state of Arkansas will permit him to practice law before them. Arkansans had learned their Governor utterly lacked any character or decency long before he emerged as the candidate of the Democratic Party. One close observer said it simply, "His word is dirt."

Instead, Americans, with the compliance of an enraptured press, allowed themselves to be lied to by both the President and his wife. And, still, New Yorkers voted the former First Lady as their Senator on nothing more than her name. It helped that, as President, Clinton freed Puerto Rican terrorists to gain some votes from that community. It helped that he pardoned Orthodox Jewish criminals from a community in which virtually every single vote was cast for his wife in an unconscionable backroom deal. As both left the White House, they attempted to steal furniture and artifacts of great value that belonged to the American people.

What, in fact, this nation endured under the Clintons was eight years of political decadence. The lies that proceeded out of the White House, once cataloged, will fill volumes. The Clintonian view that any kind of behavior was permissible pervaded the political life of the nation and those who fought back were derided as "a vast right wing conspiracy."

Now we hear that the Clintons were seen dining with Michael Eisner, the president of Disney/ABC, and the rumor is that Clinton is seeking a television show of his own. The only result of that would be more lies, more perversion, more degradation of our culture and our society for that is the Clinton's legacy.

If the Disney/ABC organization gives Clinton a platform for his deceits, then a nationwide boycott of Disney/ABC should follow as an outpouring of protest against the further poisoning of our society. This should hold true for any major network or cable television outlet that permits and augments the promulgation of Clinton's megalomania.

We come now to the announcement that Rep. Gary Condit, having utterly disgraced himself with a tawdry affair and his stonewalling, intends to run for public office again. This is a test for his constituents in California and for all Americans. Gary Condit must be defeated if this nation is to renounce the Clinton era of lies, scandals, and decadence.
