Stop "Negotiating" With Terrorists

Alan Caruba/WASHINGTON/Anxiety Center -- Does it strike anyone as hypocritical that, while the US is engaged in "a war on terrorism" in the Middle East, it still finds time to tell the sovereign nation of Israel that it must not also wage war on the terrorists in its midst? Continued Below...

coverThe True Believer : Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements, by Eric Hoffer is a modern classic. It explains mass movements such as Muslim Fundamentalism and Communism in generic terms. It explains how adherents are pursuaded to undertake extraordinary means and even commit acts of terror to ameliorate their lack of a sense of self-worth. Fascinating work on many levels.

Here's a little footnote to the September 11th WTO attack. In 1986, a terrorist blew up a bus in Israel. He was captured, tried and imprisoned by the Israelis. As part of the Oslo agreement, Israel had agreed to release so-called "political prisoners", but refused to release any with blood on their hands. The President and Secretary of State insisted they all be released. Mohammed Atta was released and he is the pilot who flew one of the hijacked commercial airplanes into the World Trade Center.

Writing in The Washington Times, columnist Wesley Pruden said, "The Secretary of State insists that the Israeli response to Palestinian suicide bombers, whose methods and goals are identical to those of the Islamist suicide bombers who brought down the World Trade Center and inflicted a hideous wound in the side of the Pentagon, is nevertheless 'counterproductive' because it sets back the prospects for peace." So far, we have not heard Secretary Powell speak a word against Hamas, Hezbollah or the Islamic Jihad.

After the latest terrorist attack in Israel, I received an interesting communication from an Israeli citizen. It identified the similarities between the Palestinian Liberation Organization covenant, announced in Cairo in 1968, and the former National Socialist Party, Nazi covenant, announced in Munich in 1920.

They share such similar language that anyone with any responsibility to "negotiate" with Yassir Arafat and his terrorist organization should throw his diplomatic portfolio in the nearest garbage can. Why shouldn't the Israelis be permitted to crush the PLO when the United States and allied nations are in the process of doing that to al Qaeda and the Taliban?

The attack on the United States by Islamic terrorists makes it clear that efforts to force the Israelis to "negotiate" with the PLO or other terrorists have been an idiotic waste of time. These demands have been in place for decades. Every time the Israelis repulsed an attack by Arab nations, the United Nations would step in with a new resolution condemning them.

If anything, I and lots of others, inside and outside of Israel have both marveled and worried about the forbearance of successive Israeli governments to keep trying to negotiate their way to peace with the Palestinians. After having survived the Nazi Holocaust visited upon millions of European Jews, it is insane for the Israelis to "negotiate" with the PLO whose covenant asserts that "Palestine is an indivisible part of the homeland" of Arabs. It amounts to a death wish.

Until around 1967, there was no reference at all to "a Palestinian people" and most certainly none to a homeland. The notion that Israel belongs to Arabs should be greeted with the same response as a demand by Seminole Indians to have Florida returned to them. There is simply no legitimate claim by Muslims on Israel or Jerusalem, a city that is not mentioned once in the Koran.

Starting in the 1920's the National Socialists of Germany insisted on a union of all Germans to form a greater Germany, demanding territory for this, even if it happened to belong to their neighbors. In 1939 Hitler launched WWII with an attack on Poland.

The PLO covenant asserts that Palestinians are solely Arabs and that they differ from everyone else because they have a particular Palestinian "characteristic." The Nazi covenant said that only those of German blood could be considered citizens of their state. Jews had lived in Germany for centuries and 100,000 fought for Germany in WWI, even though they were not permitted to rise above the rank of sergeant.

The PLO aim of "liberation" includes the elimination of Zionism, the term applied to the movement to establish a national state for Jews. Islam requires its people to impose their religion on the entire world. "Zionism" merely refers to the desire of some Jews to live in a homeland of their own. More than half of all the Jews in the world live someplace else. The PLO definition of liberation would exclude all Jews from Israel.

The Nazis went about achieving a similar goal by eventually killing every German Jew they could and then killing millions more from throughout Europe. When they invaded Russia, they killed twenty million of that nation's citizens, Jew, Gentile, and Communist. So far, the goals of both groups are a mirror image of one another.

The Palestinian covenant would require all states to regard Zionism as illegitimate. In short, it outlaws Jews in Israel, despite the fact that Jews have lived there for 3,000 years, despite the fact there never has been a Palestinian nation, despite the fact that "Palestine" is the name the ancient Romans applied to Israel in a futile attempt to eliminate any further reference to it. The Roman Empire fell to the invasions of the Vandals, the Visigoths, the Ostrogoths, and its own utter and complete decadence. Israel lives, reborn from the ashes of six million murdered Jews. If you believe in miracles, that's a pretty good one.

The Palestinian covenant declared that Great Britain's Balfour Declaration that mandated the partition of Israel is illegal, just as the Nazis declared the Versailles treaty that followed their defeat in World War I invalid.

Both the PLO covenant and Nazi Party covenant were declared to be unalterable. So much for "negotiating" with people like this!

It is time that the government and the people of the United States begin to take seriously the genocidal intentions of the Palestinians and of millions of militant Muslims in other nations. At present, the US is trying to cope with the use of a biological agent, Anthrax, sent to various members of our government and our media. These people mean to kill every one of us. We are infidels and, according to the demands of a jihad, a holy war, subject to being killed unless we convert to Islam.

It should be recalled that the recent United Nations conference in Durban, South Africa was supposedly devoted to eliminating bigotry. On September 3rd, the United States withdrew because it was nothing more than an excuse to repeat all the slanders of the Nazis and the Muslim world against Jews in Israel and everywhere else. On September 11th Muslims destroyed the World Trade Center and attacked the Pentagon. A fourth plane had yet another destination for destruction.

The United Nations has an appalling record of anti-Semitism and that alone should invalidate its claim to speak for world peace, the brotherhood of man, or any other goal other than its obvious intent to become the new authoritarian government that would rule the world.

Syria, a sponsor of terrorism, was just elected to the UN Security Council! When UN weapons inspectors were told to leave Iraq, they did. The UN made it impossible for the US to eliminate Saddam Hussein at the conclusion of the Persian Gulf war. It is widely believed that Iraq provided the Anthrax cultures that have already killed some Americans.

The United Nations wants its own independent military force, its own independent court system, and the ability to tax every nation.

The United Nations asserts its treaties supercede the Constitution of the United States. It is time to shut down the United Nations. It is time for the US to stop propping up the UN with our dues. It is time to replace it with a new organization that does not pose a threat to everyone's freedom everywhere. And it is time to stop negotiating with terrorists.
