BUDDY BITES IT

Seattle/Conservative Monitor -- In a sad but typical development today, Buddy, Ex-President Clinton's faithful companion was killed by a speeding motorist not far from his home in Chappaqua, New York. Both of the Clinton's were away and buddy was running loose. Chasing a contractor leaving the premises, he bounded out into the middle of the road at the end of a cul de sac. There he met his end. The Clinton's issued a statement to the effect that "We are deeply saddened by Buddy's death." They might well have added, "He was a loyal companion, but we tossed him aside the way we do most of our loyal companions, leaving them to the mercy of oncoming SUVs."

Whether or not the Clintons were in violation of any leash laws, they are guilty of a certain degree of negligence. The chance of a loose dog getting killed are fairly high. The chances of a fenced dog getting killed by a speeding SUV are next to nil. The Clinton's expressed sorrow at the loss of their dog, but refused to take responsibility for it. In many neighborhoods Buddy would not only have been subject to the mischance of motor vehicle traffic, but the calls to the local animal control authority by little old ladies or even a dose of lead poisoning from the end of a farmer's shotgun.

In spite of such news, animal rights activists are sure to continue to support the Clintons, just as feminists continued to support them after the Paula Jones affair, Anita Brodderick, Monica Lewinsky, et al.
