The Cindy Sheehan ShowDr. Bruce L. Thiessen / Dr. B.L.T. -- I am a conservative who deeply regrets the loss of innocent life in Iraq, but who supports the President's decision to go to war in Iraq. I am not among those conservatives who, in a heedless state of emotional reactivity, have rushed down to protest the anti-war protest headed up by Cindy Sheehan. Her anger, (generally a normal and predictable stage in the grieving process) is misplaced, and has morphed into a desparate narcissistic attention-seeking mission, complete with unrealistic demands on the President that represent a subtle and strange form of emotional blackmail. Nevertheless, folks on the left are marching to her cacophonous rhythm, and she has become the poster woman for anti-war protesters. Following her around, even for the purpose of demonstrating against her, makes me her follower, and makes her my Pied Piper. Conservatives need to find someone, like a patriotic version of Cindy Sheehan (only with a sound mind) and find their own place to show their support for the troops, indepenedent of what Sheehan does or does not do. George W. Bush has already met with her, and has openly expressed sympathy for her. He is doing the right thing by refusing to fall into her emotional-blackmail-laden trap. We should follow in his footsteps. I, for one, will not play second fiddle or dance around the cacophonous symphony at the Cindy Sheehan Show.Blog song version of letter: The Cindy Sheehan Show: words and music by Dr. Bruce L.
